school stuff

some differences between american and danish university that i've found kind of interesting:
  • in my classes here, there are no projects, participation points, etc. your grade is determined by one thing: the final. not sure if i like that or not. i'll let you know come grade time.
  • it is expected that you form your own opinions. the professors here do not want you to regurgitate what they've told you. in fact, it is not abnormal to tell the professor that you think they are wrong. it was kind of weird the first time i heard a student say "well, i think that is a bad example because...."
  • most of the class is discussion, not lecture. they expect that you've learned the material from the book, so why lecture on it?
  • you don't have to go to a single class if you don't want to. although, most students do attend.
  • if you fail an exam (which is your entire grade), the danish students can retake the exam 2, 3,... i don't know maybe more times.
anyway, just thought it was interesting.

I didn't know we could retake finals. That is tight. I did know we can challenge the grade we got, so If I have anything under a 6, I'll be bugging them day and night.
